What the app stores
Skipstone keeps one save file in your device's local storage. It holds your progress and nothing else:
- Coins, level, experience and best distance
- Which stones, skins, gems and lakes you have unlocked
- Upgrade levels, daily challenge progress and season trail tiers
- The display name you choose for leaderboards, if you enter one
The save file itself never leaves your device; the leaderboards get only what is listed under Leaderboards below. Deleting the app deletes the save, and progress you earned — coins, levels and best distances — cannot be recovered afterwards. What you bought is a separate matter; see Purchases below.
What the app does not do
- No account, email address or password is ever requested
- No analytics: the app measures nothing about how you play
- No contacts, photos, precise location, microphone or camera access
- Nothing is ever sold
- Your save file is never uploaded anywhere
Information reaches anyone else in two places: the leaderboards, and ads when you choose to watch one. Both are described next.
Leaderboards
Skipstone has daily and weekly leaderboards for each lake. When you enter a nickname and throw, the game sends our leaderboard server:
- Your nickname. The game suggests a made-up one; please don't use your real name
- A random player number the game creates on your device. It is not your advertising identifier or any other device identifier, and it is not linked to your Apple ID or Google account
- Your best score on that lake for the day and the week: the distance, the crossing time if you reached the far shore, and the number of Perfect skips
- Which lake, which day or week, and when it was sent
Everyone who plays can see the nickname and score on the board. The server runs on Vercel in the United States, which keeps ordinary request logs, including IP addresses, for a short time to run the service; we do not use those logs to identify anyone. Nothing is sent until you choose a nickname.
If you tap Report on someone's nickname, the server records that nickname's player number, the board and the time, not who reported it. Nicknames that break the rules are removed from the boards. To have your own entries removed, email us with your nickname and roughly when you played.
Ads
Skipstone shows ads in exactly two places, and both are your choice: a visitor on the pier offers you a gift, or offers to fish your stone back out after it sinks. Nothing is shown if you decline, and there are no ads anywhere else in the game. Legend Pass owners get both without an ad.
Those ads come from Google AdMob. When one is requested, Google receives your device's advertising identifier along with technical details such as device model, operating system version and IP address, which gives it a rough idea of your country or region. Google uses this to choose an ad and to count it. Skipstone itself is told only whether you watched the ad through, so it knows whether to hand over the gift. It is never told who you are or what you were shown.
Google's handling of that information is covered by Google's privacy policy. You can limit or reset the advertising identifier at any time in your phone's own settings — under Privacy & Security on iOS, or Settings → Google → Ads on Android — and the game carries on working exactly the same.
In the UK, the EEA and Switzerland you are asked for consent before any ad is requested, and nothing is requested until you answer. You can change that answer later from the same prompt.
Purchases
Passes, bundles, stones, skins and coin packs are sold through Apple's In-App Purchase system on iPhone and iPad, and through Google Play's billing system on Android. Apple or Google handles the payment; Skipstone never sees your payment details. The app asks only whether a purchase completed, so it knows what to unlock. Their own privacy policies cover that transaction.
Because that record is held against your Apple ID or Google account rather than against the save file, purchases are not lost if you delete the app. Reinstalling and signing in with the same account restores your passes, stones and skins, together with whatever came bundled with them: the game asks the store what you already own each time it starts. Coin packs are the exception, as they are spent rather than owned.
Children
Skipstone has no chat and no messaging, and it asks nobody their real name, age or email address. The only thing a player types is a leaderboard nickname, which the game suggests for them and which is filtered for offensive words. It is not directed at children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect personal information from them. The ads described above are served by Google to the device rather than to an identified person.
Changes
If a future version of the app collects anything more, this page will be updated before that version ships, and the change will be described here. 24 September 2026: added Leaderboards, for the leaderboards in version 1.0.1.
